The Mexican folktale, “The Forbidden Chamber” represents a common life lesson that almost everyone has to abide to: love is not perfect, and trying to find the perfect woman will leave a man with disappointment and loneliness. The wizard is taking girls against their will to try to find the perfect wife for him. This shows that he is shallow and selfish because he is taking girls from their homes and only chooses by looks and not their personality. He wants to find a woman who has the self control to overcome the common woman’s curiosity. The wizard’s quest towards perfection led to many women being locked up into the “forbidden chamber”. However, his obsession leads towards his demise when a girl finds a loop hole in his test of curiosity and leaves the egg behind before entering the chamber. When the wizard returns and sees that she passed the test he instantly trusts her and thinks that she is perfect. She then was able to trick him into leaving the castle as she freed all the prisoners. They then got revenge for the evil that he did. A man who has everything thinks that he can get a woman that is as perfect as his life. However, love cannot be forced, it can only be found. Therefore, trying to find the perfect woman is no use for a man that is trying to force love. This is relevant today because wealthy single men choose girls by their looks and sway them through materialistic things. What love should really be based on is the personality and the connection between the two people; not the wealth of one and the looks of the other.
